Con Dao Islands. Accommodation Suggestions Please?
Hi.Looking for accommodation on Con Dao for the middle of May...Have flicked off a few emails / booking requests to a few places that are recommended on TA and Agoda....No replies (3days).
Apart from Six Senses, most if not all of the places on Con Dao do not have glowing reviews....!
Can any one recommend a place on or near the beach, A/C, Wifi and breakfast included. Budget is user $80 USD per night.
Con Dao Resort & Con Dao Seatravel Resort are the 2 I have been trying to get in contact with.
Thanks if you can help me out.
Cheers.

Hmmm. Ok. Thanks for that.Maybe you can suggest a destination for 4-5 days between Mui Ne and HCMC then??
Beach would be good, but was also thinking of heading up to the Cat Tien National Park..any ideas?
Yes, I've been to Phu Quoc.

You could also try Long Hai near Ba Ria,lots of places there to stay along the beach.5
Thanks Chaps.Yes, already have Mui Ne locked in....just looking for a week between Mui Ne & HCMC.
BBB - I'll look into Saigon Con Dao - thanks.
RK - yeah, was just reading about the strip between Phan Thiet and Long Hai....could be an option.
Thanks once again for your help.
Cheers.

Con Dao is a great place to visit though and the Saigon Con Dao is not so bad but it has no beachOP don't throw out the baby with the bath water. That hotel is part of Saigon tourist and you will be able to book direct with the hotel or the mother company.
Con Dao is a lot more interesting than Mui Ne. Also Mui Ne is now becoming a bit pricey.

Hi,I would definitely skip Mui Ne, unless you are a resort-type. It is really far and the traffic is heavy, so you should count practically the whole day (at least 6 hours) to get there. It is also not worth it. Typical tourist trap with nothing interesting to see, although I must admitt the beach is really nice. The sand dunes are a great dissapointment (unless they are the only sand dunes you have seen in your life). The fishing village is OK. Fairy Spring is very nice for a 2-3 hours walk if you are there.
Con Dao is absolutely fantastic! It is quite underdeveloped and there are no crowds at all. There is no luxury there (apart from the already mentioned 6 Senses, which has absolutely outrageous prices) but it has a very nice feel.
We stayed in Con Dao Resort, which was OK. The food was fine, the air condition was working, I don't know about the wi-fi though. We did not use the pool which looked a bit "green", but no loss there, since they have a beautiful beach. There is no public transport on Con Dao, but you can learn how to ride a scouter in 15 minutes, take my word for it ;)) There is practically no trafic there (for Vietnamese standards: no traffic at all), so it is really safe.
Have fun, whatever you choose!

HI pater - Thanks for your post. I'm going to Mui Ne...the current route I'm on in is Quy Nhon (here now), Nha Trang, Dalat, Mui Ne...I really like the beach and happy to put up with hyper Tourist BS for a few days. The mountain roads between Nha Trang, Dalat and Mui Ne are considered some of the most dramatic in the south....quite looking forward to taking on these roads with an Easy Rider or solo?
Con Dao resort is one that I looked into, but has very average reviews on several sights...I know that I shouldn't believe everything I read online:), but when you sift through all the info...it doesn't seem worth flying out there for a below average accommodation experience.
No decision made yet..still thinking about Con Dao or the stretch of coast from Phan Thiet to Vung Tau......the search continues.
I'll def post back up with a review of whatever I decide just to keep up to date info flowing on here.
Thanks for your comments - I appreciate the effort to help me out :)
Have a great day.

Glad I could help!As for Mui Ne. If you decide to go for a Fairy Spring, which is a very pleasant walk, do not get discouraged too early. Just at the end of the path it gets quite rocky and unpleasant and we have seen some people turning back. If you are stubborn enough there is a small reward in the end - a nice waterfall and a very small pool at the foot of it to cool off.
Have fun!
