10 day trip to Iran - help on itinerary

10 day trip to Iran - help on itinerary

I am planning a 10 day trip to Iran.

I am now considering basically two options - one involves an extra domestic flight.

My option A would be - day 1, Tehran, day 2, fly to Shiraz, day 3 Shiraz, Day 4 Shiraz to Yazd, and see Persepolis, Necropolis, Pasargarde on the way, Day 5, Yazd, Day 6 Yazd, Day 7 Yazd to Isfahan, Day 8 Isfahan, Day 9 Isfahan, then fly to Tehran, Day 10 Tehran.

May option B would be - day 1 Tehran, day 2 fly to Yazd, day 3 Yazd, Day 4 Yazd to Shiraz, and see Persepolis, Necropolis, Pasargarde on the way, day 5 Shiraz, Day 6 Shiraz, then fly to Isfahan in late evening, day 7, Isfahan, day 8 Isfahan, day 9 Isfahan, then fly to Tehran, day 10 Tehran.

Which one is better? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I guess your A choice looks nicer, because there are more daily flights from Tehran to Shiraz than Yazd. And I think visiting Persepolis and around it in the morning is a better option and gives you an off-hurry visit than visiting in the afternoon after the long tiring Yazd-to-Shiraz drive.The weak point of your B option is visiting Iranian highlight, i.e. Persepolis in the afternoon which is not so much recommended when you have a better choice!

Why so much flying? No need to fly when you can catch cheap and safe buses everywhere, even with only 10 days, you get to see some amazing things along the way...

Both itineraries are applicable but the first option is the common route done by most of Iran tours and individual tourists, so I suggest it as well. By the way, you will have more flight options for Tehran-Shiraz than Tehran-Yazd.

Hello

I like more option A too. But OK, take the plane to Shiraz and go from south to north, but probably you can have a look to go by bus between Isfahan and Tehran at the end, a bit more time than the plane probably, but not very much in my opinion.

How long is the direct ride between Isfahan and Tehran? Given my tight schedule, I think I might skip Kasan and Qom in between the two cities. Or there are better ways to do this trip so that I can slot in Kasan? By the way, should I spend less time in Yazd?

I was told by a respected travel agent that Tehran - Esfahan was 3 hours, turns out it was 8 by train. I didn't do Qom or Yazd, but did Shiraz, Kerman, Yazd and Bandar Abbas. Nothing to see in the latter but has a strange and cool atmosphere. Most people go to Yazd, not Kerman, Qom, Kashan....

Have you checked out an open-jaw flight?

Into Tehran, out of Shiraz or the reverse. Saves you the internal flight and some time.
I flew into Shiraz and out of Tehran.
My route was Shiraz-Yazd-Isfahan-Kashan-Tehran. 11 days and easily done by VIP bus (and 1 long distance taxi) with no rush.

Isfahan to Tehran is about 7 hours on bus.
Regarding Yazd, I should say that one day is quite enough to visit this city properly so that is recommended to spend that day on visiting Kashan and Abyaneh en your way to Tehran.

#Iranexpert - I'd advise two days to visit Yazd. One for the city itself, just wandering around and seeing the Zoroastrian sites and another to go on a tour of Kharnaq, Chak Chak and Meybod. We also took in a Zurkhaneh 'show' as well.
