I have done some research and read some threads, plus some googling over the last hour and I'm a bit confused/concerned.
I'm in Kalambaka, Greece at the moment visiting Meteora, and I'm planning to leave here in 2 days time, arriving in Ohrid, Macedonia on the same day. I had researched this leg before leaving Australia but that is a while ago now and I'm a little concerned.
I had thought that you could bus from Kalambaka to the Greek border (Florina), taxi to the border, walk across, then bus to Ohrid. Is that correct?
Or do I need to bus to Thessaloniki, then bus to Florina, then cross border?
Or am I best to train to Thessaloniki, bus to Skopje, bus to Ohrid?
I just can't work out schedules and the best option for me... I've now read that buses from Thessaloniki to Skopje only leave at 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays? Which is concerning since I plan to travel on Thursday....
I can leave Kalambaka as early as I need to, no issues there.
Can anyone help?!

For anyone who might be able to help, I've just received this from the accommodation manager in Ohrid:
Best through the border crossing at Medzitlija - Bitola, and Bitola-Ohrid is 71 km or 1 hour with bus (Galeb or Transkop)
I think that last bus from Bitola to Ohrid is 19,30 Galeb

2OK I think I have worked out a 9am bus from Kalambaka to Thessoloniki (20 Euros), then a 1pm bus to Florina arriving at 3:30pm (16 Euros). I am guessing that it will take about an hour from Florina to Bitola by taxi, through the border crossing etc, so it will be 4:30pm in Bitola... then hopefully a bus to Ohrid at 5pm or thereabouts?
Does this all sound about right, or would there be a better option?

3I just send you PM hope you get it on time. And BT taxi is there to wait for you.
You can also catch the 18.00 TRanskop Bus to Ohrid. But do spend the night in Bitola if you can. There is lots to see and do in the City and than go to Ohrid.

I reckon so. I think there is also a bus from Thessaloniki to Skopje, then Skopje to Ohrid but that would prob take longer (I don't KNOW that but it's my best guess).
From Florina was actually pretty easy in the end, Macedonian gave me the details of a taxi driver he knew and he met us at the Florina station and took us from there.
It was €25 to Bitola (then a bus from there about €8 for the two of us) or an extra €28 just to go all the way in the taxi.
If you want his contact details just PM me (or Macedonian) :)
Hope that helps!

look on the Saloniki website http://ktelmacedonia.gr/ for buses.
First is out to Florina around 8am takes 3 hrs.
Just note that Greece is GMT+2 and MKD is +1 or
CET 0 for MKD and +1 for Greece.
Make sure you keep in mind time change as you might need it for catching buses locally.
As Horto mentioned if you need details just yell, will organize everything for you too...
If you go Saloniki-Skopje is way long and it goes via big loop, no need to spend extra 3 hrs on the road.
Salonika -Skopje is about 5-6hrs on the bus depends on the crossing at Gervgelija (in summer months is very busy) than you have to wait in Skopje to catch the bus to Ohrid which is another 3 hrs ride... This way, Saloniki-Florina 3hrs ride, Taxi to Bitola 30min and 1 hrs bus ride to Ohrid..and on the top the crossing at Medzitlija is virtually empty and its takes 5 min to cross the borders..
have fun & welcome to Macedonia

10I'll be going from Ohrid to Kalambaka (Thus other way round...) in a couple of weeks.
So Ohrid bus to Bitola
Then Taxi from Bitola to Florina
Then Bus Florina to Thessaloniki
Then Bus/Train Thessaloniki to Kalambaka
Are there no "Straighter" way from Florina to Kalambaka?
(On a map = via Konzani and Grevena maybe)
Also would there be taxis from Bitola to Kalambaka? And what would the approx cost be?
Thanks for any help!

11That is correct.
Taxi or hire car would be the more direct options. I couldn't tell you how much the taxi would be from Bitola to Kalambaka, but from Kalambaka to Bitola I was told (by a taxi driver) it would be approximately 200 Euros.
Hire car would be similar if not more I would think (if at all possible) one way hire and dropping a car off in a different country...
