Day trips from Donegal

We have rented a house in Dungloe, Donegal while our niece competes in the International Mary of Dungloe Festival this August. We will be there for seven days, but hope to take several day trips out and back from Dungloe. This is our first time in Ireland and we would like to see as much as possible. Not being familiar with driving times, etc., does anyone have any ideas about what we should see and do? One thing we thought of doing was visiting Derry and going on to the Giant's Causeway. Is such a trip doable in the course of one day? All suggestions on this and other ideas for day trips would be welcome

Hi.... *wbmike. Welcome to Thorn Tree.
I hope you have a very happy and long stay here - with us all.

Sure - Donegal, Derry and The Giant's Causeway are OK in a day.
But don't try to rush things.
It'll be a nice drive to Derry and The Giant's Causeway - then back to Donegal.
However, you need a good 3 hours exploring Derry - maybe more.
The Giant's Causeway is easy for a couple of hours or so.
Try and make a nice early start.
It's well possible - and doable.
This isn't really a 'Start off mid-morning' trip - though.
Hope you have a great time.
I adore all that region of Ireland.

A nice day trip from Dungloe would be to Glencolumbkille to Killybegs and back. It's a popular tourist drive for those who bother to make it up to Donegal, but it's popular for very good reason.

You're close to Glenveagh National Park. The park is a lovely place for a hike and a picnic, or there are usually guided hike/tours as well as various displays at the castle. You can google it to see if there's anything of interest to you.
