Day Before Booking of Pelni - Ambon

Hi all,

Hoping that I can turn up at Ambon Pelni office on 5th May and be able to buy an economy ticket for Ambon to Banda which leaves the next day!!

What are the chances of being turned away due to no places available for that next day journey.

I've done research regarding Pelni bookings and it appears I can do it at any Pelni office for Ambon to Banda... unfortunately I will be flying in from Malaysia to Surabaya (or Jakarta) then flying straight up to Ambon.... I big hop skip and a jump of a journey I know, but it's the way it seems to have worked out for me :-(.................. I'm unable to locate any agent etc in Malaysia (Penang).

I'm aware of NBA and Wings flying from Ambon to Tual and I could do the reverse intended journey (Ambon > Tual> Banda >Ambon Or maybe even include Bau Bau within return trip), but I would have spent too much time on planes getting from Cambodia to Penang just to get my 2 month tourist visa, then onwards to Ambon via Jakarta or Surabaya.... so looking forwards to some sea time.

Okay, experiences welcome..... hopefully Laszlo is available online soon........ finally, any cargo ships etc leave Ambon to Banda?? I don't mind roughing it, in fact I prefer it sometimes when travelling, makes you feel alive lol.

Thanks for reading and looking forward to any help... "edit' I have contacted Pelni Customer Services and am waiting for a reply as I write.

Happy travels.

Virtually zero.
It should be absolutely NO problem to buy a ticket for the next day normally.

Thanks Laszlo...... worrying about nothing I guess, just didn't want to get there to be disappointed.

My understanding is that, practically-speaking, there is an unlimited number of economy class tickets available on Pelni ships. About the only "problem" would be a mass disaster where everybody in town is leaving on the ship.

Or the ship sinks.

Don't even go to the pelni offices, just turn upp at the dock. Room for everyone and more.

Thanks guys......

Well let's hope there's no disaster in town, and will I get a refund if it sinks ;-)

Will definately take my nice yellow water wings just in case.... but will decide on my polka dot coloured water bed nearer the time.

Thanks again for the good info.

You can always get on the boat and pay the ticket control sweepers when they go around - claim ignorance ... in English(!)

VERY occasionally Ekonomi tickets are "sold out" during major holidays like around Idul Fitri when the whole country is on the move.
It never happened to me, but a (local) friend once couldn't get a ticket in Surabaya. But note I've personally only heard of ONE such case in years in Indo.

I'd buy the tickets in Ambon anyway, of course.
It is easy enough to get them from the main Pelni office as it is in the very center of the city, but tix are normally also sold in the "departure hall" of the port when the ship is already in.

I'm loolking at arriving Ambon the morning before, So will have loads of time to locate the Pelni office and get myself a ticket for the next day.

Quite sure all will be okay.... thanks for the replies everyone.

And at last, will get to visit the islands that I've wanted to visit ever since vacationing every year in Sumatra, but never had the time to get across to Bandas and Kei, then onto Nasu Tenggara.... Alor looks incredible!!

Laszlo, I think it was your links that actually introduced me to Bandas and Kei.... so many thanks for that and to everyone else for the valuable help.

Looking forward to a great trip!
