Palenque and Agua Azul,

If I am in San Cristobal, can I do Palenque and Agua Azul, in the same day?

Is it possible to rent a days driver to take us around or is it easy with buses?
Does anyone know the price to rent a driver for a day?

Do you mean a round-trip, starting and ending in San Cristobal de Las Casas? The first-class buses take 5 hours one-way to travel between these places, a private taxi will be slightly faster. You can figure that doesn't leave you a lot of time to see the sights, particularly if you only travel during daylight hours. For comparison, the taxi drivers at Xpujil charge 900 MXN for a much shorter day-trip to Calakmul and back (mind you, there's less competition on that route).

There are a number of tour companies in centro, SCLC, offering trips like this. I've done it but would not do it again. Not enough time at Palenque and way to much travel time. See if you can, spend the night at Palenque and come back the next day. The tour I was on dropped people at a hotel on the entry road. Palenque is a big site and deserves more than a few hours. The tours are around 12 hrs
and leave as the sun comes up.

Go with a tour from San Cristobal if you can't go to Palenque but it would be a very long day from SC to see both sites. Check out Otessa on Guadalupe Real.

cilia, the short answer os no. Best to visit the Palenque ruins starting in the early morning with a guide. Then in the afternoon you can explore other parts of the ruins on your own. Takes about a day to properly explore Ruinas Palenque.

Buen viaje!

I don't think so! Going from San Cristobal to Palenque and Agua Azul on the same day would be insane!!

I was in Palenque last December and stayed at [El Pachen|http://bkpk.me/1-day-at-el-pachan-chiapas/) close by to the archelogical site. Our friends there went to Agua Azul on a different day and took quite a while on the way there and back (one hour there but almost two back due to the rain). They used a combi as transportation.

I was in Palenque recently and I took a 1day tour with Palenque in morning then afternoon to Misohal + Agua azul.
For me, I cant do too long in Palenque bcos its too hot.... and i slipped into museum at 12pm to see the exhibits which can take u 1hr at least.

As mentioned above, going fr San Cristobal will take 5 hrs, u can count how much time u have if u want to go Agua Azul, except if u dont mind the rush, and also leaving like 5am fr San cristobal and returned at 9-10pm.

I would say NO.Palenque is at least a full day and better if you can give it 2 days. You can go to Agua Azul from Palenque and it is well worth going to but I would give it a whole day.Far too much time travelling to do it from SCLC.Poster #4 is right about early morning. We were first in and it was totally worth it.
If you can, take a snack and have it by the Red Queen' bath.

No you cant. Way too much plus you also need to see the falls at Misol Ha too while you are in that part of Chiapas. Photos of all of this on my website wolfcalls.com. Easy to arrange day trips while you are in the town of Santo Domingo de Palenque.

Perhaps go directly to Agua Azul (about 4 hrs from sclc), stay 3 or 4hrs, walk around, swim, eat at the restaurant. Then go to Mayabel (take RUINAS combi from downtown Palenque). Mayabel (camping, cabañas pool, great restaurant, music, etc.) is at the foot of the jungle about 2km away from the ruins. Sleep the night and wake up fresh to hit the ruins (Sunday is free). YOu may have to pay entrance to the park to get to Mayabel.
