For May, I recommend sticking to the east side of Thailand, so, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, or Koh Tao. Monsoon season is starting on the west coast so the weather may not be as good. As for which island you go to, it depends what you want to do! The diving and snorkeling is best on Koh Tao, Koh Samui is the busiest and most touristy, and Koh Phangan is beautiful too. Depending on how long you have, you could visit 2 or all 3 of the gulf islands. They are all easy to get to from Bangkok, and from each other.3
thanks a lot for your replyim planning to stay like 2 weeks on the islands ,
i see you do diving so perhaps i can do few dives and maybe Yoga (had a motorbike accident 2 years ago and still my knee hurt ) so if it will be useful will go for it
for sure im looking also for some good night life on the beach as Thailand is famous with that
any recommendation on where to stay please ?
thanks again ,

I agree this part of the year Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui may be the best choice. If you search for serene atmosphere and some peace you will like Koh Tao and Koh Pha Ngan. These islands have very good snorkeling and diving conditions. In some places you dont even have to go for an organised trip to do it. There are some beaches from where you can start diving directly from the shore eg. Tanote Bay / Lang Khai (Koh Tao) - my favourite one. On Koh Pha Ngan I recommend you Chaloklum beach with incredibly white-powder sand!...and no crowds!:)
Something less popular among tourists but amazing, and much closer to Bangkok is Pranburi at the border of Sam Roi Yod National Park. One of the best caves I have seen in Thailand and no one around! As for snorkeling there are quite nice conditions there and some underwater caves on nearby islands just in front Pranburi village. I truly recommend this place!
