Chiang Mai in late May/early June?

Hello all, my fiance and I are heading to Thailand in late May and staying through mid June for our honeymoon. We know that this is the hot season in Chiang Mai and not the ideal time to visit Northern Thailand, but we are prepared to deal with some heat and rain to be able to experience this part of the country. We've read the guidebooks' references to the "fire season," and we're curious whether this "fire season" occurs every year and if it's definitely a reason to avoid Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas in the late May/early June timeframe.

If you have been to Chiang Mai in late May/early June, we'd appreciate any input you may have regarding the weather and "fire season" that time of year

Thanks in advance for your help!

The fire season is pretty much over now, by then there will be rain about, no need to worry about fires and smoke. Although I can't say how much rain there'll as I don't have a crystal ball. You'll be fine, its only rain. Go and have a great time.

Yup, skies are clear now, "fire season" (time to avoid the north) is more like mid-Feb til late March. It's still hot (38C/100F highs every day lately) but at least the haze is gone. We've had a couple decent rains but yet to see the start of actual rainy season, that's usually more like June and even then it rarely rains all day usually a late-day thundershower (which is actually a welcome relief). Come on up.

Hot doesn't describe it. It's HOT, DAMN HOT!
It's so hot, that when I turn the fan on, it gets hotter!

I wouldn't plan on doing anything too strenuous outside.

At least it should be raining by then, so a bit of relief from the heat.

We were in Chiang Mai in late May last year. It wasn't that hot and we were only inconvenienced one evening by the rain - the drains blocked and flooded one end of the soi, so we had to walk the other way once the rain lightened a bit.

It was lovely and cool in the hills too (around Nan /Loei) - mid to late 20s cool, I mean. They have fires in December it gets that cool then!

Starting to touch the low-40s in some parts of north Thailand now (41 in Tak and Lampang yesterday). Welcome to "hot as hell" season. The humidity's also kicked up a notch, but no rain since April 7th in CM.
