Road trip in Pakistan
Hello everyone! My wife and I are two experienced travellers in our 50's, travelling with a camperized Toyota HZJ78 (no electronics). We plan to go to Kazakhstan and then, via Kirguizistan and Tayikistan, entering Pakistan and visit it for a month or so (north and centre). Then India (Ratambore park and Calcutta) and back, via Pakistan again (South), Iran, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, etc…… to Spain (via Central Europe).
We assume Pakistan is a safe country and not imposible to visit driving our own car (as seems to be the case of China —or almost). The car is conditioned to sleep inside, so we will not go to any hotel-hostel-yurt-ger or similar: we will allways be sleeping in the car. We take for granted this is secure enough (as it was last year in Morocco and Mauritania). The car is also conditioned to cook, so we will buy food and water in towns on the way and eat our own food. We also assume this won't be a problem in small towns or medium sized cities. The car has also a small hot and cold shower, so we will fill our water tank (60 litres) and have showers or wash our hands on remote spots on our way.
Does all this sound OK for the connaisseurs of the area? We love that region and would be really happy to simply be able to make the trip.
With many thanks in advance, :-)
CM

Well, you can't enter directly from Tajikistan in to Pakistan 9there is no official road),you will have go in to China then in to Pakistan.Well some parts of Pakistan re safe but some not,for example Baluchistan province is not very safe though you 'd be escorted by police.
Sleeping inside the car in Baluchistan is not recommended, always try & stay in the hotels in the mentioned province.

well, before you deal with the specifics of your vehicle, i think you need to do some more research on your route. like #1 mentions, there is no border between tajikistan and pakistan. and foreigners aren't allowed to cross the tajik china border. so you'd need to backtrack to either kyrgyzstan or kazakhstan via uzbeksitan, or skip tajikistan and exit kyrgyzstan to china. but.... driving in china is very expensive or next to impossible. also, foreigners aren't allowed to cross between the georgian or azeri caucuses to russia. you'd have to take a ferry from batumi georgi, to russia or ukraine.then there's the pakistan visa issue. for quite a while now it's been next to impossible to obtain out of your home country. since you plan on passing through twice (and visiting a lot of other places between) you'll most likely run into a lot of problems. search old threads on this forum for more detailed info.
i don't see a problem with sleeping in your car in remote (AND SAFE) areas if you can find a discreet place to park. balochistan is probably out.
