maho bay camps or cinnamon bay?

Hi,

I'm debating between staying at Cinnamon Bay tent sites (http://cinnamonbay.com/tents.html) or in Maho Bay Tent Cottages (http://maho.org/).

Considerations:

  • I'm there for 6 days over memorial day for the Open Water Swim. I think Maho is the official meeting place for swimmers
  • I'm traveling solo, and want a place I can meet people the easiest.
  • Access to activities (swim, kayak, hike, etc), is fairly important.
  • Does Maho closing soon effect the level of service there?

Any suggestion on which place would be better to stay in?

Maho's closing? That's too bad.

Will you have a car? Cinnamon and Maho aren't far apart but the north shore road is hilly.

I've only stayed at Cinnamon but it was great fun. You can rent kayaks and other watersport equipment, but at least in the past I think this was available at Maho too.

Some info on trails to get you started:

The Reef Bay trail is fun- if you organize through the park a boat will pick you up at the bay so you don't have to go back uphill!

I believe MOHO has received funding and will not be closing soon, not 100% sure though.

I stayed a week at MOHO and loved it. It was easy to meet people as it is a popular place for a lot of locals to go when they have time off work. The beach was great, but can be a good hike if you have one of the upper cabins.

I can't answer for the Cinnamon camp as I have yet to stay there, but the beach is great for swimming.

I know that the Trust finally bought the land, but I don't know what that mean's for Maho - there's nothing new on their web site.
