Accommedation in Vietnam in May

Hi.

I am going to Vietnam for the first time in May. Does any one know if it is needed to book accommodation in advance? I don't need anything fancy and I haven't really settled on a travel plan yet other than a flight in and out of Vietnam.

Thanks

Hi there,
May is the peak period of tourists in Vietnam so I think you should book a room in advance.

Best,

May is the peak period of tourism in Vietnam.? I seriously seriously doubt it. No need for reservations for the kind of accommodation specified.

I was there in May last year and got low-season rates everywhere. Just booked places as we went along, no problems and I can't imagine it will be any different this year.

OP:
A lot would depend on the circumstances. May is not height of the season.
I suggest it may be a good idea to book the first of your accommodation before you set off.
The rest would depend on other factors.
For example, the later you arrive at a city the less rooms will be available, and would you want to arrive late into a city you do not know looking for accommodation?
Secondly, (and I found this one the hard way...) check if there is not something on that could give rise to hotels getting solid bookings. This would include the likes of conferences, concerts, etc.

Where in Vietnam do you intend to stay and what is your budget
Maybe it is best to book the first couple of night,s in advance and follow on from that

You dont need to book in advance, maybe the first two nights when you arrive and thats it. Having travelled many times here in VN and sometimes on holiday weekends, I have never pre booked a room.

No need to book anything in advance, anywhere, in May. Second month of low season.

Certainly you can book when you are here but why don't you book in advance when everything is available for booking in advance? The pictures, the information, the reviews... are available for you to check, the prices are also sometimes cheaper too because some hotels will charge you more when they know that you have no way to go or too tired to find another place?
If you bring big luggage so is it good idea to take your luggage with you around Hanoi?
The taxis can also bring you to a hotel but are you sure that he/she will take you to the hotel that you like or just a commissioned hotel?

Don't know others often do but for me, I always make sure that I have the hotel that I like for the first or second nights before I go!

Just make sure you don't book this place!

Re pre-booking, I think it basically comes down to whether you're the sort who'd rather arrive and have the thrill of walking around checking and looking for a place or if you're in the other camp where you prefer to have everything sorted before leaving home so you know where you're going and when.

Pre booking rates in low season are always higher than walkup rates. If you are fearful and made of mooney, do it. Otherwise, ain't necessary.

Room reservation advance 1 or 2 days before is always better than come and book. Even we are local still do.

Welcome to Vietnam and enjoy trips,
