Land borders from Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Bhutan

I will be working in Bangladesh this year for a couple of years volunteering and ask if anyone knows if I can get across to other countries by land ie., India, Bhutan, Myanmar. Am I able to physically cross the land borders on these countries and get the visas in Dhaka? ie., to get to Myanmar I would have to fly to Bangkok and then onto Yangon. Can I not do this just crossing a land border.

I will be working in Barisal. Can anyone tell me about it? How do I get there from Dhaka? Anyone know of any good hotels there?

Anyone got any interesting things I should see or do whilst there? Any tips or anything that can help me who has knowledge of Bangladesh gratefully received. A woman on her own. Cheers!

Bangladesh have the border with India and Myanmar but it is only possible to go India over land. If you want to go Myanmar, you have to fly via BKK.

Barisal : Welcome to my home town. Barisal is a land of green and water. A big portion rivers of of Bangladesh are located in Barisal. The city is small, quart & you will find many ancient buildings and temples in the city.

How to go : Best to take a boat from Dhaka Sadarghat. Every evening (7 p.m-9 p.m) 4-5 boats go to Barisal from Sadarghat. Take a cabin in those boats and sleep. early morning (5 a.m) it will reach Barisal. Also possible to go by bus. Usually it takes 6-7 hours to reach including1 hour ferry ride with bus.

Hotel : Hotel Athena is one of the nicest hotels in Barisal. Roof tariff starts from USD 6. Hotel Arena is newly constructed luxury hotel (Saheber Gorstahan) starting room rent from USD 10.

You cal also think for Hotel Ali International at Sadar Road starting from USD 5

Interesting sights : Guthia Baitul Aman Mosque, Durgasagor Pond, Chakhar Sher E bangla Fazlul Haq complex, Ashshini Kumar Town hall, B.M College. You also can visit the villages surrounding Barisal.

In general, Bangladesh is very safe country for female travelers as they are honoured here. So, dont worry about safety or other issues.

I think Dhaka, Chittagong or Khulna will be the better places then Barisal to live. Discover Bangladesh
