First time Europe traveller
My wife and I will be traveling to Switzerland and Italy from late June to late July this year. We are meant to be attending a wedding in southern Switzerland to start the trip, and then will spend the rest of the time in Italy.Do any of you well traveled individuals have any advice for port of entry and exit when we intend to fly out of Ottawa? I have done some research on flying into Milan - and then traveling by train to Switzerland - and returning to Italy that way - but see so many options that I don't know where to start.
At this point - any help would be a good start!

I would compare airfare to fly to either Milan or Zurich and then adding on trainfare to wherever the wedding is. From Canada, Zurich is usually the cheapest point in Switzerland to fly to.I would also suggest looking into a Swiss Rail pass. I would suggest a Flexi Pass which gives you free travel on a specified number of days in a 30 day period and 50% discount on the rest of the 30 day period.

Have you looked into an openjaw ticket? Fly into a city in Switzerland and your return flight out of Italy.4
Agree with # 2 and # 3 . If you've got a month, then 10 - 14 days for wedding and other sights in south Switzerland leaves you 2 weeks to get a decent taste of Italy, assuming it would be your first visit there. For a first visit to Italy, the usual tour is Venice - Florence - Rome, and if you've got a few days to spare, a bit of time in the countryside and small towns in Tuscany and Umb ria between Florence and Rome. This would suggest an inward flight to MIlan or Zurich and a return from Rome. For italian trains see trenitalia.com.
