San Francisco taxi & Denver activities

This Friday morning, I'm flying to San Francisco and heading to the Presidio to deal with some paperwork ridiculousness. I was going to take BART & then a bus but that seems to be cutting it a bit close, so my current plan is BART (or Sam Trans) & then a cab.

Since I'm ridiculously cheap, I've never focused on good places to catch a cab, so where is the best place to get a cab near the Civic Center BART (I can picture cabs near the 16th/Mission BART but Civic Center all the government buildings nearby are hazy in my mind). If I end up catching the Sam Trans bus, I need to get a cab around 9th & Mission, so will probably head up to Civic Center unless I spot a hotel w/waiting cabs or someone has another idea.

After a quick overnight in San Francisco, I'm flying to Denver. My plan for Sunday is Boulder and trying to fit in a spot of hiking but on Monday, I'll be sightseeing in Denver. Can anyone suggest any fun activities. Already planning on visiting the Denver Mint, so need something less avaricious in the downtown area and more physical. I found a rock climbing place but don't know how to rock climb and they don't seem to offer beginner classes on a Monday. Maybe yoga or pilates that I could just show up for. If nothing comes to mind, I'll take a nice warm place to sit and read a book.

Suze, There's numerous places that rent bicycles in the downtown area. There's also b-cycle which rents from a kiosk, but they're not the best long distance bikes. Some very nice trails start downtown and go in all directions--south all the way to Cherry Creek and Chatfield reservoirs, west to Golden, etc. All this information is easily available on the web. As for Boulder, Google up Boulder Open Space for lots of nice trails. The only problem is that on Sunday you will have problem finding parking if you have a car.

If time is of the essence, frankly, I'd spring for the money to take a cab from the airport. Your incoming flight might be delayed or you could get really lucky and it will be one of the days that BART has a mechanical problem.

I have found it fairly easy to hail a cab in the busier parts of SF, but here is a list of taxi stands. One is at the 24th & MIssion BART station. You could also find a big hotel, tip the doorman & have him get you a cab.

Thank you for the taxi stands link. I considered the cab from the airport scenario but this feels like a $18 emergency, not a $50 emergency. I was actually surprised that there isn't a flat rate from airport to San Francisco. Maybe I'll try the middle option of a shared van and just go to the first hotel they drop off at.

Thanks for the bike ideas Mugwump. It's the exact thing I like to do and bicycling really lets you see more than just walking. Will look for bike stands - not super picky about what bike I ride.

The Denver art museum, while a bit overrated in my opinion, is a cheap ticket and the traveling exhibits are usually pretty interesting.

The rock climbing place may well have a yoga class so ask and there's so much yoga and Pilates in Colorado that you can't be far from a studio. Ask at your hotel or google it and you're bound to find a class nearby. Otherwise you can sit at Corner Bakery and people watch. You could likely find a Sunday evening class in Boulder as well.

I was going to "see" the museum from the outside but will consider going in if they exhibits look good. Just looked it up and it's closed on Monday.

I figured yoga/pilates was easy to find but one gets so persnickety with that stuff. Finally booked my hotel (the Marriott - via Priceline) and it has a nice gym/pool, so maybe I'll just workout there.
