yep, the bus is the way to go.A very comfortable ride and cheap as chips, ( a dollar or two, from memory ).
Turn right as you leave the Terminal. Start walking, the buses are parked up only a few hundred metres away. You'll see them.
Walk straight past all the taxi touts, they'll tell you all the buses got blown up overnight, or some other crap.. Just keep walking...

I disagree with you, bambooboy. $15 for splitting a cab is pretty good, especially if you get the half with the steering wheel. The tires alone are worth much more than that. What a laugh: " ...$15. Remember you HAVE to negotiate. Have heard of plenty of people getting scammed.." Yeah, add yourself to the list.

It will be a lot cheaper to take bus 152 if you arrive between 7AM - 6PM, the bus will take you from the airport to Ben Thanh market and it only costs 4000VN₫ (or ~ 20US¢) for a ticket, you will need to have VN₫ changes (best in 5000 or 10000 denominations) to put in a machine on the bus, the driver will manually operate the machine to give you changes back in 1000VN₫ coins. Pls be aware, the driver may ask you to pay an extra ticket if you have a large bag or suitcase. I arrived in HCMC from Shanghai a few weeks ago and did take that bus from the airport to Ben Thanh market and paid the above-mentioned fare 4000VN₫ (or ~ 20US¢). The bus stop is just in front of the international terminal, on your RHS towards the end of the building. In regards to hotel/GH, I stayed at Baochau hotel (add: 355 Pham Ngu Lao st) for around a week and paid 250000VN₫ (or ~ US$12.50) / night for a single room with aircon and private bathroom/toilet + free in room wifi.
Cheers.

I arrived at SGN on March 1 and it took some doing but I talked the guy down to $7. I would advise you to keep walking until you reach what appeared to be an official taxi point which is down further than the guys who approach you with the laminated price lists. I would pay no more than $10 because PNL is not that far and if you arrive too late to catch the bus, traffic will probably not be that bad.The people in the PNL area were IMO the most helpful as far as finding a room. Pretty much all you need to do is find someone in the alley, tell them what you are looking for and they will help you find it. If you are not approached by anyone or choose not to allow someone to help you, remember to bargain a bit. Also, if you cannot get the price you want from one hotel ask if they know of another hotel that might have that price.
