Antigua - Solo Traveller

Hi

I am a lone traveller going to Antigua on the 16 April and have a few questions:

1. Whats ther best way to get from the Guatemala Airport to Antigua ?
2. I want to meet people and so whats the best hostel to do this in Antigua ? I have read the Jungle Party Hostel.
3. How many days can one spend in Antigua ? (I plan to learn Spanish in Lake Atitlan so I wont be doing this here)

Thanks guys

1- Share shuttles are waiting for exiting passengers outside the exit after baggage claim on the main drive, its $10 for a lift to your hostel/hotel in Antigua, it takes about 45 minutes.

2-Check Trip Advisor, there is a lot of hostels and also low cost clean, safe and friendly private rooms/baths in Antigua.

3- Depends on your interest, and what else you plan on seeing and doing in Guatemala. For most 2 nights will cover the main highlights and nightlife. Its a huge expat enclave to meet other like minded travelers.

You can get another shuttle or arrange transport, from Antigua to just about anywhere in Guatemala, even trips to Tikal and Copan Honduras. Most go from here to Pana, and explore the Atitlan lake areas 2-4 days, then side trips from there, or go to Xela a few days, then hike or shuttle to San Pedro on Atitlan, All the main points of interest have a network of transport options catering to the tourist.

Jungle Party has a nice bar/lounge area which is very social in the evenings and an excellent place to meet people. You also get an excellent breakfast which is included in the price of your dorm bed.

Jungle Party and Black Cat are a couple of the more notorious MacHosteal type places that have popped up around Latin America the last few years. Primary interests of many guests seem to be drinking, drugs and pilfering other folks luggage. Plus the odd bedbug infestation. Spend a couple dollars for a safe, clean place. Post your budget..in dollars not adjectives, and folks on here can help. As to meeting people. Super easy. Remember that 90% of what you want in Antigua is within three blocks of the park. There are several gringo bars/restaurants. Drop off your gear in a hotel and stroll. Pop into someplace that looks lively and in a couple hours you will have friends. Socializing is a major sport.
