Tulip blossom in NetherlandsI'm wondering when would be the best time to go and see the tulips in full blossom this year...
I have the following options:
- 7-9 April
- 28 April - 1st May
- 5-8 May
I have read/heard about the best time being in average mid/end April, but vary depending of the years. Does anyone know about the actual situation this year? Has the blossom already started?

2difficult to predict well ahead of time. lots of flowers out already right now.
other things to keep in mind, 30th April is Queens Day. That may limit your options for accomodation, depending on where you stay. Avoid Amsterdam if you don't like huge crowds of people. Go to Amsterdam if you want to experience the biggest streetparty in the country.
5th May is Liberation Day in the NL, with lots of music events and other things going on.

3I drove past lots of colourful flower fields already last week, near Lisse and Haarlem. I don't know if they were tulips but it was beautiful! Yellow, red, purple, pink...
The first week you mention is Easter, so might be expensive and full, hotelwise. Perhaps look for a place in Haarlem if Amsterdam is too expensive. Haarlem is a lovely city and a good base for flower watching.
I don't know if the flowers will still be in bloom at the end of April. And indeed, take note that Queensday is crazy in Amsterdam (again, probably best to find accommodation in another nice city).

7As far as I'm concerned the Keukenhof is worth the money, but of course it is very touristy and can get crowded, particularly on weekends.
I passed through the flower fields several times in the last week, and - although I am by no means an expert - my guess would be that they will be at their most beautiful in a week or so from now (the weather forecast also suggests that the wet and cool weather we had recently will start getting better from the end of the coming week onwards). So Groo, it looks like your timing is quite right.

14Forecasts show temperatures of 19-20C with sunny intervals, so it's not that bad at all.
The reason why hotels are so expensive is that Monday is Queen's Day and Amsterdam in particular is invaded by hundreds of thousands of Dutch and foreign tourists. It may be a good idea to find a hotel in Haarlem or Leiden instead.
I passed by a couple of tulip fields on the way home from work (along the A44 motorway) and they weren't in full bloom yet. From what I here, the Lisse area is better.
