I will be travelling to Egypt (Cairo) from India via Saudi Arabian Airlines. I have a two hour transit in Riyadh while going to Cairo and an hour's transit in Jeddah on my way back to India. I would like to know what the transit experience is like. First of all, I am single and will be travelling with a Guy friend, who is also single. Would it be a problem during my transit in both Riyadh and Jeddah? I have heard that there some complications about having a Sponsor when you enter Saudi Arabia. Does this apply for a transit as well? How are the queues in the airports? Do we need to separate into gender based queues? As we are only transiting, do we have to go through immigration and customs? Or do we just go through passport control like everywhere else?
If you have any insights on these airports that I need to consider or any tips, I would appreciate that a lot !

1You won't leave the airport. When you get your seats on your first leg of the journey they will probably give you the boarding pass for the onward leg. Therefore when you debark in Jeddah just look for the new gate to go to.

2You will not go through passport control when you are in transit (even when Saudi airlines made a change to our flight such that we had to pass out of the transit area and check in again we were accompanied by a staff member and never actually entered the country). If you need to go through any security there is a separate enclosed booth for women. Jeddah airport is fairly small and boring for an international airport but you won't encounter any other problems transitting through there. You will see a small number of Western and Indian transit passengers depending on the time of day. There is no need for women to cover their hair or wear an abaya.

3Thanks everyone! That really helped. Also, would you happen to know what the cancellation policy & penalty is on Saudi Arabian Airlines? With the current political turmoil in Egypt, there may be a need to cancel my flight ( if the situation gets out of hand ).

4I agree with LP members you will not go though passport & customers and your bags will go Cairo.
You will be land with Saudi Arabia airlines on Cairo International Airport Terminal 1: When plane lands you will see Bus to pick you up to Arrivals hall) Don’t forget fill out landing card.
As you have visa in advance you should exchange money you will see 3 banks Go to the National bank of Egypt which has great rates.
Then on your left you will see Immigration passport control once pass that you will be waiting for your bags. Once get your bags you will go though customers:
I will give you a mobile number in Cairo
Cairo Bus Services Taxi)
Mobile number is 00 201 222 424 992) you can email them) also good email them 2 days in advance
I hope you have lovely trip to Cairo
