Nairobi - place to stay and more :-)Hi.
I'm going to Kenya/Uganda and maybe Tanzania in August.
Anyone knows a good place to stay in Nairobi. I’m travelling on a low (backpacker) budget and just need the place to be clean and safe. Since I’m travelling alone I wouldn’t mind a “social place” and a place how also can help with trips and so on.
Do anyone know how much it cost to take the bus from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam and how many hours the trips take?
Is it safe to travel alone as female in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania?

1Upper Hill Campsite. One of the best Hostels in Africa. The woman who runs it is American and very helpful (though she is quick to chuck idiots out, which is good! Make sure the taxi takes you tot the right one though as there was another one which is now a seedy alleyway, get the address and right it down. If you go onto their website, they can send a taxi to your location at a pre-arranged time, or get their number and call them saying you have a reservation. They can and will help you with any onward travel, there will be lots of people there and there is one giant wall of books and posters/leaflets/helpsheets with other tour operators, hostels, suggestions etc on it.
Nairobi to Dar is about 12 hours if you come via Moshi, I don't know if there is a quicker route though I hear the Nairobi-Arusha road has been improved which should make the journey quicker.
Uganda is perfectly safe, I would wager the other two will be if you keep your wits about you, I never felt unsafe in Nairobi or Dar, Moshi was the only place in Tanzania I thought was dodgy.

for a place to stay on a limited budget in the Nairobi area call Nancy on + 254 714 755 644 (or email firstname.lastname@example.org) as I know she has some budget cabins in a campsite for rental and that is in a very safe compound and she can organise travel etc.
Nairobi can be a bit daunting if you do not know your way around, but I have had no probelms when I have been travelling there ( but I am a man) so I would suggest giving Nancy a shout as she was very helpful to me.
