Sept 24: Explore Dingle, Slea Head, stay in Dingle

Good, well-considered itinerary...if I had to tweak it, I'd probably suggest you choose some more interesting stops on Sept 25...unless you have connections or interests in Nenagh, Kildare or Bray, you'd be better heading to somewhere like Kilkenny for the night, maybe stopping off in Limerick for lunch and a walk around...The 23rd will be a fairly long day in declining September light but if you can do it then you're probably best making it to Dingle to give you the next day in the locality...somewhere like Doolin would make a good stopover (you can still drop into Gus O'Connor's for a bowl of the finest Irish Stew on your way) but if you do stay a night in Co Clare then something has to give later on...
Oh, and I think you might enjoy Howth maybe a little more than Malahide on the way out...good luck...

have a look at SHANNONFERRIES.COM / see the mapBefore you goto Dingle stop by the town of Foynes
in County Limerick and see the FLYINGBOATMUSEUM.COM
On the way to Dingle .....in Listowel see the
LARTIGUE MONORAIL .....Google for info.
and in Connemara visit the fjords in Leenane
Youtube the following : " AT YOUR SERVICE PART 1"
followed by part 2 and part 3.
enjoy your trip.
Why the interest in Nenagh ?

Howth is definitely more scenic than Malahide. Get there early and, assuming the weather is good, you can do the cliff walk - very scenic. "The House" is meant to be a good restaurant and there are also several fish restaurants. I believe there are some pretty good restaurants in Malahide too, but it's not somewhere I've ever lingered (except to get a set of bagpipes fixed, once in the distant past). If you don't want to spend the night before that in Dublin either, I would stay somewhere in or around the Wicklow Mountains. Check out your accommodation choices for Glendalough, Laragh, Roundwood, Glencree, Enniskerry and nearby places. Or do as Waterhazard Jack suggests and make that day's stop further away from Dublin.

Thanks for all the suggestions and keep them coming. The reason I wanted to stop by Nenagh is because I'm a big Pogues fan and after seeing the pictures of Shane MacGowan and Joe Strummer at Philip Ryans I thought it'd be cool to stop by there.
I have a friend that said the best time she had when she was in Ireland was at Gibney's in Malahide, so that's my interest there. Howth sounds great too and I definitely plan to check that out.
I'll check out all the suggestions for the 25th. I started out much more ambitious, but decided trying to see the whole country I'd probably actually be missing out more. I think the 23rd might be a little too ambitious and we're still trying to figure that out.

In that case, do stop in with Philly Ryan and if he's there, he'll regale you with several good stories about Shane...in fact, from my understanding, if Shane is on the premises til the early hours then the bar stays open til he decides to call it a night...))Gibney's is a fine pub of its kind...the music part of it will probably be closed on a Wednesday night but if you bend the boss's ear then they might turn the key in the back room to show you their U2 'Mount Rushmore' type montage which was kinda inspired as a gesture to a semi-regular customer of theirs, a certain Larry Mullen jnr...

Another thought: for the 21st, if you're driving from Dublin to Galway, and don't have a busy programme for the day, you could divert en route to check out Clonmacnoise.7
check out a book available online called :"In search of the craic" ...one man's pub crawl through irish music.
In Doolin county Clare stop by O'Connors bar see on Google info.

Does anyone have a recommendation on car rental companies in Ireland? I was think Avis or Hertz, but open to any others if anyone has real world experience.11
I usually use Arguscarhire.com, you can usually get better offers there than you can directly with the company.I would also generally select Europcar near Pearse Street, or Avis in Kilmainham. Can recommend both.
Unless you really need to, don't get an automatic as you'll pay a premium.
Also don't get satnav, you won't need it where you're going and they're very expensive to hire. Or bring your own with updated maps.
