Unusual fun stuff to do at Kashmir

Hi Everyone,

I am visiting Kashmir - Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg in April this year for a week and am really keen to know about the fun stuff to do there. I am not a conventional traveler and while I like to have my share of 'touristy' fun..I'd like tips about the unique stuff you could do here that may not necessarily be famous.

Thanks in advance!

Ruchika

My buddy snowboarded at Gulmarg and said it was a trip. He met a guy who was in the process of starting a down hill biking tour as well. That could be fun.

You could always visit the tomb of Jesus Christ! :)

I don't know much about it, whether it's touristy or not, but it sounds like something that'd be fun to check off the ole bucket list...

^^ Is it possible to travel there now? A friend told me that they weren't allowing people to go near it. I might have mistaken that for the fact that they won't let archeologists excavate it.

To make it even more funny, stand next to Indian soldiers in Srinagar and scream Azaaaad Kashmiiiir!!

flanigan, that's hilarious.

In Pahalgam, I highly, highly recommend the Beach Resort guest house (it's about 1km north of the town center). It's clean, comfortable, and in a beautiful location right on the river. They have a kitchen they might let you use.

The guys that run the guest house, both named Ishmail Khan (that's an inside joke that will definitely make them laugh) can take you to the tomb of Jesus (there are at least two, one in Srinagar, and the one I speak of). It involves a fantastic day hike into the mountains, past a couple of really small villages that rarely see a foreign face.

The father of these same young men, can take you on an epic trek from Pahalgam to Zanskar. I'm still bummed I couldn't do it last year. He knows many other trails as well.

If you time it right, the Amarnath Cave pilgrimage is possible/worthwhile.

If you're interested, PM me and I can give you the contact details.
