New to MonroviaHi everyone,
I'm a student from the UK who is staying in Monrovia for 2 months on a placement with an NGO. I was wondering if there are any of you out there in a similar situation who have any tips for life in Monrovia, particularly about things to do and how to meet people? I never did the travelling alone thing before so its a bit daunting!

1Contact Euridice on here, no longer in Liberia but might have some great ideas for you!

2Get on the Facebook group- Monrovia Friends
Join the Liberia expats Google Group
Both of those are places where expats ask questions, make social plans, etc. The expat community in Monrovia is pretty small so you will meet people quickly. There are always people coming for short term internship/research placements so you will likely find people new and short term looking for friends as well.
Some (pretty) regular social things where you can meet others include Wednesday night karaoke at Boulevard Cafe, salsa night on Fridays at Sajj, live music at Garden Cafe/Africana on Friday nights, Hash runs on Sundays....most of those activities are mostly (but definitely not exclusively) frequented by expats. To meet Liberians get to know your colleagues and they will show you places to go. Liberians are very friendly and like talking to foreigners so you can easily meet and talk to people just about anywhere.

4#3 - therefore it would be worth searching on here & elsewhere rather than mailing an expat group for holiday advice!
There's a lot to see in Liberia, google is your friend!
