Late April Italian Skiing?

I have a work trip planned to the Piedmont area of Italy for late April. I am considering extending the stay and skiing in the 'milky way' area -- does anyone know if the snow conditions will be good this time of the year? Would plan to bring my ski boots but rent skis/poles. Any suggestions/info greatly appreciated.

we are currently skiing in Southern Germany - the snow here is great, however later in the day it does get pretty soft - we are having 15+ degree days and the snow is leaving fast, but I am sure if you don't mind the spring skiing then you would have a great time down in Italy. :)

Well this time of the year is not the best time for skiing but not as bad as well. At the end of the April most of the ski resort in milky way area are closed. For further information you can go to http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/Italy/Claviere_snow_report.html.

Forget the Milky way, it is struggling now and the majority of the lifts are due to close on the 15th April. Depending where you are in Piemonte you could head to Cervinia which is pretty high and should still be open. It is about 1 hour north of Turin.

Thanks all! Based on this feedback I will skip the milky way.

I was also considering Cervinia. I have read the skiing there is pretty beginner, I would consider myself advanced intermediate / expert. My form isn't anything to brag about, but I can still 'all mountain' in Colorado/Utah/Cali/etc. Will I be board at Cervinia? I've read Zermatt is better...is it true there's a cable car access betwee the two areas? Good chances it will be operating in late April?

I also have a weekend between work days I can spend in North East Italy (slightly north of Venice). Trentino was suggested. How's the snow there?

Cervinia has some great runs certainly not just for beginners, but the majority of slopes are fairly wide, I live in Italy and to be honest the best resorts still open are those in the val di Aosta, along with Macunaga which is on Monte Rosa, whilst the Dolomites are beautiful they do not offer any better skiing than Cervinia
