Nova Scotia in 5 days? Motorcycles from PA to NSWe are planning on riding our motorcycles from Pennsylvania to Nova Scotia and back - taking 10 days the beginning of May 2012. Any suggestions on the best route (we prefer the smaller roads)? Any thoughts on the top 5 places to see in Nova Scotia since we are on a limited schedule? Any comments would be great.

2You won't have much time for anything. Not sure what mileage/time per day you anticipate but we used to spend 3 days/ 10-11 hrs. a day driving from Chicgao to south-eastern Cape Breton. Granted, roads are a bit improved but still... ( and we camped at night.)
Anywhere in NS you'll be impressed by the beauty and variety. If you can get to Cape Breton do the Cabot Trail. Peggy's Cove is strange and wonderful. Anywhere along the Fundy coast, Eastern shore, anywhere!

3Small roads versus efficient travel time would be a concern. From as far south as Kittery you could get to Highway 1 and then take that most of the way to the border on back roads. In New Brunswick you could do the backroads between Saint John and Moncton, but they are long and not so scenic. One I might suggest and a favourite of mine is soon after crossing into Nova Scotia you are given the option to drive towards Parrsboro which will add 60-90 minutes to the drive to Truro, but is a beautiful area. I would probably skip Halifaxc and the south altogether and just head for the Cabot Trail. My favourite campsite on the trail is Corney Brook in the national park, but Meat Cove is also nice.

4Decide which parts of the route are most important to you and save your slower, smaller-road travel for those areas. I drove (by car) from Pennsylvania to Nova Scotia and stuck to the faster route until I got to Bangor, since my real interest was in the Maritime Provinces. If that works for you, switch to Route 1 in Bangor and follow it all the way across the border at Calais (to 2 to 104), through New Brunswick, to Nova Scotia. Google Maps clocks that route from Philly to Truro at 17 hours, and that sounds about right. I spent my first night in Hartford, CT, second night in a park on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick, and got into Pictou, NS, early on the third day.

6my parents do similar routes with their MC club. consider googling local clubs along the route and seeing if their webpages list group rides--they often give feedback such as good food, views, road conditions and warnings.
i can't remember all the rides they do, but i know that the route up from fundy to moncton, by the river, is a favourite.
