Help me choose - Koh Phangan or Koh Samui or Koh Lanta?

Hello -- back for trip #3 to Thailand. This time we are doing 14 days. We fly into Phuket to meet friends for 2 days, then fly out of Bangkok at the end.

I want to check out Krabi, so was thinking either to bus from Phuket - or ferry from Phi Phi. I also want to see Koh Samui/Phangan as I've not been there yet, but reading through forums I found Koh Lanta which also looks lovely.

I am only looking at 2-3 days at each place which has always been enough for hubby and I. We basically like to rent a bike, and do our own sightseeing, get massages and eat. I love the white sands and clearest water!

So which islands do you recommend??

When are you going?

Do you mean that your plan is to go to Phuket for 2-3 days and Krabi for 2-3 days after going to one other place for 2-3 days? I'd stick with the Andaman Coast in that case - you'll eat up a whole day getting across to Samui or Phangan.

I'm going 14-28 June this year. My plan was going to be something like:

2-3 days - Phuket
4 days - Krabi - bus to Surat Thani
1 night Surat Thani
3 days - Koh Samui
2 days - Phangan
Then fly from Surat Thani to Bangkok.

Or --- should I just go to Koh Lanta? I guess I really want to go to Koh Samui because I've never been there and I want to do all the main areas on Thailand, but am I wasting my time? IS there anything different/better that I would see that I wouldn't get elsewhere?

I'd probably just pick a coast and stick with it. Having said that, the weather will be better in Samui and Phangan.

Not good time of year on Lanta with the prevailing south/west monsoon blowing onto the beaches - many establishments close down for the low season.

Same for any beach facing the west from May - October.

June is a good time to go because it's quieter and cheaper.

Phuket-Lanta-Krabi makes sense. Go via boat.

Samui/KPN are too far away and more hassle and not worth it.

There's heaps of tours around pha nga bay from krabi or phuket including phi phi.

You can fly krabi to bangkok with air asia at the end.

I'll throw in my two cents....

As above at 6, stick to one coast, there's plenty to see there.

lanta and koh phangan are too far away. lose 8 hrs in transit. not good for short trip. much more things to do around krabi.

^^ If Lanta is too far away, I fail to see how Krabi is a winner!

KPN is too far from Lanta and makes no sense to skip Krabi to go to KPN.

Phuket-Lanta-Krabi are all linked by ferry.
