Los Christianos Tenerife, 1972

I went to Los Christianos Tenerife in 1972 while waiting to catch a freighter to Africa.

If I remember right, they were building a hotel on the beach.

I camped out on the hill overlooking the town in kind of a half cave above a banana plantation.

There had been a colony of international backpackers who had built kind of shanty town on a spit at one of the beaches, laid out with streets and everything, but the Guardia had driven everybody away shortly before I got there.

Its Blackpool in the sun these days and maybe more dangerous also!
