Hoi An & Hue AccommodationHi all, I've worked out all my accommodation for the trip all except 2 of the H's - Hoi An and Hue.
Budget is ideally not more than $15 (less would be good), central/city centre and would any have a pool for that price? Any recommendations?
Any personal experience?

1I doubt you will get a pool in Hoi An for that price, Hoi An is on eothe most expensive places in VN. Hue is more affordable.

6Violets, do you have a link for the hotel? The link I found had at the bottom of the page, "Prices as of Oct/1/2001 and may change without notice" and there booking dates only go up to 2010! I have sent off to them but so far no reply.
On Agoda, the cheapest is $20 (plus taxes) but the hotel is listed as Than Binh II
Cedezlepassage - they have a standard single room but that rate isn't shown so I've emailed them.
Any more places anyone can think of?

9I emailed Thanh Binh 2 (and 1) but today had an email from delivery service saying it had failed due to "Mailbox disk quota exceeded", so looks like it's either back to square for Hoi An or I book this place through agoda.
Better luck with Hue though. It's a toss up between Binh Minh Sunrise and Thanh Xuan. Have already received a reply from Binh Minh and am waiting on a response from the other one. The first offer free shuttle to/from train/bus stations, but I like the look of the latter place - they have a pub/bar called the Crazy Buffalo which looks kinda fun.

10You can try Southern Hotel (Phom Nam in Vietnamese?) in Hoi An if your budget is only $15. It has a nice pool but is a little bit out of town (around 15 mins' walk). However, they have shuttle service from Southern Silk (oppoiste to Sinh Tourist office) to the hotel every hour.

11We stayed at the Thanh Thien Hotel in Hue for $22 during February. They upgraded us a huge suite and prices may have come down since peak season. Check booking.com or agoda.com for details. Our post about Hue is here - http://www.culturecats.com/2012/03/03/hue-vietnam/
For Hoi An, we stayed at the Than Van 2 Hotel for $24/night and prices may be lower now as well. They had a small pool out back behind the restaurant and "spa".
Here is our summary for Hoi An - http://www.culturecats.com/2012/03/02/romantic-charm-of-hoi-an/

12Get down to the Hoi An fish market at dawn - Cap'n. It's a wonderful cacophony of sights, smells, photo ops and all round organised mayhem.

13All three Thanh Binh hotels are north of the river. 1 is in the old part of town but has small, old- fashioned rooms and is a little noisy. The upstairs back rooms seem best. When I stayed there a few years back the rooms were about $9. I stayed at Thanh Binh 2 a couple of years ago and was able to get a room just by turning up. If their website and email aren't working I imagine they will have plenty of rooms. You could ring them. Look up Travelfish.org to get the number. That hotel is on the corner of Hai Ba Trung and Ba Trieu, a little walk from the centre, and TB 3 is further along Ba Trieu, near a lot of other hotels. Quite a lot of the hotels seem to have pools these days but some Are better than others.

14Turned up at night last week to my booked room at the Thanh Binh 2 hotel to find they didn't have a record of it. I showed them my extensive email correspondence with them and was told someone else must have answered it. It was a very busy weekend and I gather they were able to secure a higher price than I had negotiated the month before. Won't be staying there again.
