Best train/bus stopover between Mumbai and Varanasi?
Hi there,I'm flying into Mumbai at 4am and will hop on some train or bus direction Varanasi.
Since I don't want to go for another 30 train hours right after the flight - is there a recommended stopover to break that trip in two?
Or: I could also take a detour to a beach nearby, north of Mumbai, Gujarat or so ...
any recommendations?
Don't ask me about what I like ... I want to know what YOU like!!

hi,you could consider taking a small detour to the Pench tiger reserve in the state of Madhya Pradesh it will fall approximately between Mumbai and Varanasi. it is considered to be one of india's few remaining tiger reserves. Also the Pench Tiger Reserve and its neighbourhood is the original setting the jungle book :)
you will be offered a Tropical Dry Forest. and u will get accomodation easily.hope it helps.

Why fly into Mumbai????? Varanasi is in the East and Mumbai in the west. Train travel in India is amazing BUT exhausting...Why not see Ajanta and Ellora Caves? I'm not sure how to get to Varanasi from the Caves but use the time to see some amazing sights.4
lyndy ... i just found a cheap flight from berlin to mumbai, thats why. but went down karnataka & kerala already last time, so it's time for something different.
