1Yes, but you have to change trains at the PlayaThai station to get on the airport line. It is a direct line ending at the basement in the airport terminal, and the city line is bt40 taking about 30 minutes, or the express line at bt90 and 10 minutes faster. That is the only station connecting to the airport BTS line. It is a very efficient wa to get to the airport if you don't have much luggage, as the climb to the train platform can be difficult with multiple bags.

2The Skytrain and the subway both connect with the Airport Rail Link. Depending where your hotel is located you can use rail service if you want.
Technically the Skytrain does not go to the airport - it's a different company. But the Skytrain does meet the Rail Link at Phaya Thai. The subway connects with the Rail Link at Makkasan. No rail services after midnight until 0600. The City Line is 45 baht. There are hotels in the Pratunam area you can walk to from Ratchaprorop and Phaya Thai Rail Link stations.
Keep in mind that if there are several of you in your party that when using a meter taxi the meter fare is the same for one passenger or 4 people in the same cab. Taxi service is door to door and when you use rail service you often have to do some walking.

5Last time I was there few weeks ago it still was the rather stiff hike of 300-400m to get on MRT.
To get on BTS at Phaya Thai is of course much easier as it links directly above ground, but even there the hike is too much for some people.
Never mind that you will actually have to hike from the final station to your hotel.
If that's not your thing the taxi always will be the better option.
