What has the Irish Gov't got against garlic?
Strange tale from the BBC..........The head of Ireland's largest fruit and vegetable producers has been jailed for a scam involving the importation of garlic. He avoided paying customs duty on more than 1,000 tonnes of garlic from China by having them labelled as apples. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard the import duty on garlic is "inexplicably" high and can be up to 232%. Onions have an import duty of 9%.
Very Irish. Why didn't he claim they were onions rather than apples?.............

True, the British, Germans, French, Italians, Dutch etc never fall for this "we must do it for the good of Europe" line!8
Jack- We may laugh at the French but they are single-minded in looking after their own interests!Yes, Ian, sometimes you can only stand back and admire the, erm, sheer gall (sorry!) of the French...any nation that can persuade/blackmail its 'partners' to relocate their parliament to one of its provincial cities once a month with all the inconvenience entailed and at a cost of €200 million annually has to be either admired or abhorred...you can say what you like about the Brits or Germans but they'd never go in for that kind of nonsense...
Not just the French, it seems every other European country but us!...
True, Donsky...there seems to be no limit to the subservience of the entity known as "Official Ireland"...
Here's a photo of our negotiator at the EU, ECB and IMF discussions...

"In the survey of 2,000 people, 20.6 per cent could not list England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as the four countries comprising the United Kingdom."Well, calling Northern Ireland a country would be a bit odd, so perhaps that isn't surprising!
