A Cambodian farce

An excellent summary of recent shooting of three factory workers in Bavet and some of the ugly side of life in Cambodia. Visitors who are intersted in looking beyond how to get to the next beach or guest house may be interested in reading.

Montyman, I'm afraid rural Cambodians do not share that Christian notion. In fact, even as Buddhists they are cynical. When they speak out( which is infrequently because they fear repercussions) they change the adage
"do good receive good, do evil receive evil" into "do good get nothing, do evil, get a Mercedes."

Also, I don't think it's time yet for another revolution. A bit too soon maybe.

Patience and education is the only thing that will help.

Really, Montyman, in a country where money is the new Buddha? Nice thought, but I trust their cynicism more than the wisdom of the desert deists whose writings frequently sound like a mixture of guilt, fear and sunstroke.

They don't take their Buddhism very seriously, that's for certain.

In fairness, you can make an argument that money or influence can buy justice in any country (O J Simpson being one example) but Cambodia just takes it to another level.

Yes too true, but it does seem that here in SEA money can get you anything you want.

uomo, I think the difference between corruption in our countries and other 3rd world banana republics is that with us it is sometimes a problem whereas with the latter it is the system.

and in Burma where corruption is the state religion, the generals there build the biggest Bhuddas in the world, Ie 48 storey tower block Bhudda monwya and reclining bhudda Moulmein.
These expensive govt constructions are designed to gain the generals brownie points to Nirvhana, when they die lol. Not called the golden lanmd for nothing.

He's been fired and will be put on trial. Might take some time.

Who'd have thunk, certainly none of you, eh?

After reading that article it still sounds like a circus, with the clowns still running the show.

The only alternatives are even worse clowns.

The clowns running the show now are the lesser evil.
