Maurian Lake District

Hello All! My sister and I are planning on a trip to Poland, specifically the Masurian Lake District. We are the most interested in Giżycko, especially Lake Kisajno. Can anyone recommend restaurants and hotels and anything we must do and see? Is August a good time to go?

We have also been looking into a yacht trip via Tiga Yacht - has anyone here worked with that company? We want to do an overnight trip.

As for August in Masurian lakes this is the summer season, so very good time but a bit crowded.

Hi. I am also going to the Masurian area in August. Can someone advice what is the easiest way to get there? The exact destination is not known yet, Mazury region is all I know for now.

I will be flying into either Gdansk or Warszawa and would like to arrive in the vicinity of Gizycko or Elk in the afternoon around 2-3 PM.

Since I have absolutly no experience, any advice will be much appreciated.

During the summer holiday season Warsaw has quite frequent bus connections with every larger town in the Masurian Lake District, the journey takes approx. 5 hours. See http://www.e-podroznik.pl for bus timetables. If your destination is Giżycko or Ełk, train will be slighlty faster than the bus, but there are less connections available - see http://rozklad.pkp.pl for trains.

From Gdańsk to Giżycko/Ełk or Ruciane Nida/Pisz the train is the preferred way of travel. Other destinations might have either direct bus connections, or you would need to change to a local bus in Giżycko or Ełk.
