Driving through Ukraine with a small caravanWe are heading to Mongolia via Ukraine with our small offroad caravan and wondered if anyone had any tips. I see the LP guide does not recommend camping the the country - but does not say why not. We are assuming there will not be any campsites so if anyone knows any particularly good places to get off road (also in Russia) that would be helpful.

2Sorry I should have been more specific (although we are quite flexible in our route) - we plan to travel from the Slovakian border E via Lviv, Kyiv & Charkiv the SE towards Rostov-on Don. In Russia we will be going then via Volgograd to Astrakhan and later E-W along the main highway from Irkutsk. Any suggestions for good areas in the vicinty of these routes for wild camping with an off road caravan/landrover appreciated - also thoughts on why this might not be recommended?!

The general advice below is from an old post about this:
"regarding safety and convenience are simple in words, but should require some practice: just find a calm place, which is not inside a village or a city, and not on a road. E.g., on a lake shore, or at a river bank, separated by forest and not visible for people going by a road or living in a village. The place also should have plenty of firewood (it can be really cold in the evening without fire). Really, if you could find a Russian native, who could show you some tips about camping, that would be very helpful for you."
