Dates August September 2012.
I am used to paying only $10-20USD a day for all expenses in Asia, so what is my best option?
Would like to do it all in about 2 months, it appears that local transport option is not easy?
Any info at all will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

2You should not bank on your daily costs in Africa being anywhere near to what you have become used to in Asia.
You should be able to do it using local transport - buses, mini-buses, train, boat ....
Two months might be a little on the short side, but if you are only going from A to B it should be easy enough.
Roughly plan a route and then see how you can best get from one place to the next and change it to suit you. Boats and ferries run across some of the big lakes, a train runs from Tanzania to Zambia, buses run between most, if not all, major cities, mini-buses run all over the place.

4We did the reverse with a tour (ATC). I put all the costs into a spreadsheet and calculated the same tour with public transport and individually organized safaris. Doing it on our own would've cost us much more. If you are interested in discounted tours i can send you the link of the travel agency that we booked with. My bf worked for Intrepid at that time and even his discounts would've not gotten us a better deal than we got in the end with our Southafrican travel agency.

5Here is the link to the online travel agency we booked with: African Overland Tours . They seem to resell ATC and a lot of others for a really cheap price. If you compare the titles of the tours to the ones of the major overland companies you'll find matches and can figure out which tour company it is with or just ask Andrew from AOT as we did.
They gave us awesome travel support, even cancelled a transport at the last minute when we no longer needed it and were already on the tour.
I am still trying to find the spreadsheet in my archives and will send it to you asap.

Appreciate your help.
Can you recall which company tours you went on if it wasn't a http://www.africanoverlandtours.com tours that they own, as they only book other company tours?

7the major tour companies in Africa are ATC (African Travel Company), Nomads, Intrepid/Dragoman, Gecko's, Gadventures (used to be Gap)
Tucan tours often don't happen, they don't seem to be big in Africa
we went on ATC, simply because it was the cheapest. on our first leg (capetown to vic falls) we were around 20 ppl, on the second leg (vic falls to nairobi) only around 10. pretty much all the trucks go to the same spots (except for the intrepid/dragoman ppl) so it doesn't really matter were u book. All companies have old and new trucks and it's pretty much just luck if u get a new one or not.
