nigerian transit visa
hello all,i am now in west africa and will finish my trip at around mid-may. i don't have flight ticket and i am from hongkong. i found out that the flight ticket from francophone country to europe is crazily expensive. and the cheaper option is getting an one-way ticket back to hongkong.
the flight from lagos to hongkong is around 200-300usd cheaper than in bf, togo, benin, niger and i am tempted to get transit visa to lagos just because of flight. is it worth to do that? or the visa money and the bribe will cover the advantage for those 200usd? i would like to visit nigeria but my time frame does not allow it so i will really go to lagos directly and take the flight.
is it possible to get the transit visa of nigeria at cotonou or niamay or anywhere nearby? if possible, kind of documents should i provide? how much will it be cost? i don't want to buy a flight ticket from lagos and then being told i cannot enter the country.
thanks. tim

Getting visas for Nigeria can be a very frustrating experience: travelers are often refused visas, and predicting how an embassy will respond to your request can be difficult. I picked up a Nigerian visa in Niamey very easily a few years ago, but there's no guarantee that getting a visa there will be possible when you turn up. If you want to save yourself the money, make sure you get a Nigerian visa BEFORE you book the flight, because there's no guarantee that you'll be able to get the visa otherwise.Incidentally, I think Nigeria is the most interesting country in West Africa: so if you do get the visa, I'd encourage you to take some time to explore it.

I managed to get a one week transit visa in Niamey in December 2011 for 65000 CFA but it was a long process and wasted two weeks of my time. I needed two photos and a returnflight ticket. But expect to be asked for something else.I've heard of a 2 day transit visa at the airport. I don't know if it's still available.
Cheers
Stefan
