Message for peerlessHi mate,
You pm'd me, but your user is set to 'not receive messages'.
Here is what I wrote:
I went for Sun CR18s. 32 hole on XT hubs. They are quite narrow but take a 1.75 tyre OK. They have lasted well - my rear went on my last trip, but it had done over 4 years which must be well over 25,000kms, including 2 trips to China, one to Burma, one to Tassie, one to NZ, one to N Lao and one to Vietnam (all over 2 months). Some of them were wet and muddy and sometimes on bad roads,so that rim did pretty well. No broken spokes or going seriously out of true. I would recommend them.
On my soon to be new bike, I will probably have Rigida - don't know what sort, but they are recommended by my LBS. I hear that the current XT hubs are not as good as the old ones (lighter, etc), so I will probabaly go with LX.
In the UK, spacycles.co.uk touring wheels are always well rated, You could look up and see what rims they use,
Hppe this helps,

Thanks for your reply.
Sorry I can't figure out how to ''turn on'' my PM's.
32's speak of much confidence in that wheel..but you are light....
"...seriously out of true..." I guess you expected to have to true the wheel mid-tour?
And your second message...I'm afraid I've lost the reference to your failed rim(probably after a zillion miles)...
And were you using the same tire specification tire for your riding?

3I never trued the wheels on tour - at the end I might notice the slightest of deviation when spun and viewed against say the brake block,I would then get my LBS to fix. By seriously out of true I meant something that would need immediate attention.
In line 5 first post I mentioned that one of the rims had gone on my last trip. Second post was to clarify.
Yes I am light, but I also 'ride light' ie I don't bang and crash about. Its hard to explain, but some people seem to crash down curbs, into potholes, etc, Others take it more gently and hence less wear (damage?).
