HELP!!! First time traveler to India!!!

I was there twice last year and had no problems, that's not to say you will be fine also..but if you keep an eye on the news, and be prepared to go somewhere else in case trouble does brew up, you should be fine. The trouble tends to be in the old city in general, there is of course the odd bomb now and then...but you can find that anywhere in India nowadays.

What I was advised was simply to avoid the old city on a Friday, otherwise there were tourists getting toured around the old city, and of course the lake and the houseboats are wonderful.

One thing I would advice if you do go, be very careful about which houseboat you go to, find a number of good reviews, there are lots of dodgy houseboat owners there. I can recommend you a houseboat, get in touch if you decide to go.

Hey,
Kashmir and ladakh is too different for trekking.
In kashmir you can see nice land scape,Lakes,Glacier.It's different then ladakh.
If you have any question regarding kashmir You are most well come.
