St John to the Baths at Virgin Gorda

I am looking for the best way to do a day trip from St John to Virgin Gorda. Would like to do some snorkling at the Baths. If anyone has some suggestions I would appreciate the advice. Thanks!

You have two options:

1. Take the ferry to Virgin Gorda. This only runs on Sundays and Thursdays. The ferry comes from St.Thomas and picks up passengers in Cruz Bay (St.John) at 8:30 a.m., then goes to Virgin Gorda. The ferry then leaves Virgin Gorda at 3:00 p.m. You'll need a passport. When you arrive in Virgin Gorda you go through Customs, then either walk the road to the trail that goes down to the Baths, or take a taxi (pretty easy walk). Bottom line - with the Customs check, getting to the trail, and eventually getting back to the ferry in time you'll have about 3.5-4 hours at the Baths (say 10:00/10:30am - 2:00 pm). I believe the cost is $85 per person.

2. If you have several people, or you have a budget that allows it, you might be better off renting a boat with a captain or going on a scheduled tour/trip. If you do this, you can go to Virgin Gorda and hit at least one other spot on the way back (the Caves at Norman Island, the Indians, etc.). Check out: http://www.virginislandsthisweek.com/power_boat_excursions for some groups that do this. Again, you'll need a passport.

Another option could be www.thevicat.com. They offer quite a few sailing and snorkeling options in and around St. Thomas. Got their details from http://www.thecoolestcarib.com.

"Caribbean Traveller" - are you just a tout for this website? The service you plug has no relevance to the question posed by OP.

OP - there's certainly no need to travel to St.Thomas and take a taxi all the way in to town just to sail to a snorkel spot - plenty of opportunities closer to St.John (like the Indians, Flanagan, Waterlemon, Haulover, etc.)

There are many boat rental companies on St Thomas that make this type of trip on a daily basis. I recommend http://viboatrentals.com , but I am the owner and I encourage you to research all your alternatives.
