6 days on the beach
Before I head to Macedonia i want to spend 6 days in southern Albania (August).Im interested in beaches. Ill be travelling alone, and i dont mind seeing some action, like bars and people.
I want to choose 2 cities between Vlore, Dhermi and Sarande.
1) What do you suggest?
2) should I rent a car in Tirana or take buses/vans?
3) booking accomodation in advance?

Dhermi, lots of young people. Easy to reach by bus or perhaps by hitchhiking; August is high season though so it'll be quite busy. Booking accommodation may be tricky, try the Drymades beach huts/camping or the Eko-camping (both online/FB), but I'm sure if you arrive early you'll find something somehow.3
Saranda is ok (and from there you could do a day trip to Butrint if you're interested in seeing the ruins) but I really wouldn't recommend Vlore for sitting on the beach - it was pretty dirty and polluted when we visited and we were really glad we were only there for 1 night. Saranda is slightly better beach-wise but don't expect the sea to be really clean - it is a port after all! I was also a bit put off by a gigantic rat that popped up next to me when sunbathing in Saranda!5
I am going to Ohrid alright. Im looking foward to that, heard good things about Ohrid.Any tips on accomodation?
Transportation: I will take buses/vans from Tirana to Dhermi. Im having a hard time figuring out how to get to Ohrid from Dhermi. Since teleportation is not available yet, i think ill have to endure the 2 days bus ride. Correct?

The most beautiful beach I have ever seen in south albanian riviera is down to Dhermi/Palasa. Dhermi or Drymades in greek - since this area is populated by greeks- is rather a big village than a town. Ksamili (Eksamili) just opposite Corfu is another village with nice beaches and islets. If you want to choose a bigger place, try Himara. Himara's beach called Potami is a good choice.ADVERTISEMENT
