In 2009 I had a passenger on one of my trips who had a Nigeria visa in his Australian passport that was nearly full. He obtained a new passport in Ghana, obviously with the Nigerian visa in the old full passport (but, however, this passport though full was still valid in terms of the date of issue of the passport).

He then went through Togo and Benin on the new passport, and when entering Nigeria (overland, not via air), we didn't have too many issues explaining the situation.

However, this was with a group of 15 people, and I pushed the Aussie guy further down the line so immigration were pretty tired of us by the time we got him stamped.

It's all about smiling, making good eye contact, a few jokes, positive and confident body language......that should see you through.

The security guy, really macho, found my spoon and said it was illegal. But, have boarded a plane in transit w/o a ticket! and so on...and so forth!)

The question is whether your old passport is still valid. In that case your visa would be valid too.

I am German, and here in Germany, if you apply for a new passport, they make the old one invalid by hole-punching or perforating it. Is this the case with your passport too? Then the visa would be invalid too.

You also have the opportunity to keep your old passport valid by taking the new passport as your second passport. In that case your old = first passport is still valid, provided that its period of validity has not expired.
