Penang to Langkawi

Hi,
in 2 weeks I will go to Penang. After Penang I will do my way through the countryside down to Singapore. I'm not sure wether it will make sense to visit Tioman at the end of February, but I think this would fit best into my plan before going back to Singapur and maybe also the rainy season is almost over.
But I also think about going from Penang to Langkawi. Is it the best way to take a ferry and how much would it cost? Is it easy to travel on Langkawi without a private car?
What would be a typical beautiful beach to relax, I don't need any bars or nightlife?

Bit hard not knowing your budget. Tanjung Rhu is by far the best beach on the island (and one of the best in Malaysia) but the 2 or 3 places there are upper mid range to high end. Note one place the booking sites show as Tanjung Rhu is actually 2 or 3km south - the beach outside is nice but not up to the proper place's standard.

Cenang and Tengah are the two main Langkawi beaches and pretty nice - have lots of accommodation in all price ranges. Cenang is a bit busy - Tengah more relaxed.

There are a fair few other midrange and better resorts on their own small beaches - some are pretty good. Trip Advisor etc will tell you more.

I have a fair few pix of the beaches I mentioned plus pix and info of Langkawi in general HERE might help your planning. There is a similar page on Tioman.

I would take the direct Penang-Langkawi ferry. Bit of mucking about getting from Penang to Langkawi via the mainland and the ferry trip out from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi is quite a long one. Google will find the direct ferry pricing.

I've done the ferry in both directions, all very easy, but do note that the air con is set to Arctic levels. Bloody freezing.
