Best route to take? I suggest you take the coastal roads along the ocean until you reach Dong Hoi, turn left to the Ho Chi Minh trail. With that route, you can see the ocean and the mountain (the Ho Chi Minh trail) and look out for blue signs on the Ho Chi Minh trail for many historical places. The Ho Chi Minh trail itself is already a "war scene" (read about it for more info). The mountains are higher in the North, more fun, so that's why I suggest you take it from there.

You will see many awesome back roads as well. I especially enjoy the ride from Long Hai beach to Mui Ne. It was empty, the road condition is really good, the sand dunes view was on my left hand side and the ocean view was on my right hand side.

It was just my suggestion! Have a great trip!

P/S: If you need help with buying bikes, let me know. I can help.

Honda Win is good enough and affordable. Minsk is too smokey, a real chimney and it will be totally banned from the cities soon.

I did not do a motorbike trip from Ho Chi Minh city but just from Nha Trang - Hoi An within 7 days

As I think, the scooter will be easier to ride rather than others.
Riding in Vietnam is such a bit dangerous as my friends' comment after tour (Aussie friends)
But most stunning places on the road never a normal tour can reach to. You do please always follow the National Road direction either when you follow the coastal road or beaten track. As in my trip, I bought the map for the full route so I can see the stop points easily. You should estimate how many milometers you should ride a day, what beautiful spots you should stop to see on the way...much risky but wonderful discover Vietnam on this way.

HI Guys,

I've just spent the last 3 months completing the trail from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi.

To help other travelers I GPS(ed) my route and also did a review of each town I stayed. If you're planning on doing the trip you may well find some of the information quite helpful.

This is probably the best page to start - http://www.timevsfocus.com/leg-one-hcmc-to-mui-ne/ho-chi-minh-trail-route-overview/

Please don't hesitate to come back to me if you have any questions.
