Lima Flights from UK

Hi,

Was hoping to get some advice re. flight prices. I'm hoping to fly into Lima from either Birmingham or London around 20th July, returning 25th August. The prices for these dates are around the £800 mark, which seems a little steep.

However, flights over the next 4 months are coming in at about £500. Will prices reduce nearer the time? Or are prices more expensive over the British summer months?

Any advice would be helpful as I have never flown into South America before.

Thanks,

Laura

£800 looks too expensive but not much. It might be a little bit too early to look for good bargain. I usually book 2-3 months ahead. Best deals I found were through search engine skyscanner.com.

In the US it's difficult finding good deals that far ahead. Usually find the deals for flights within 90 days.

But even here there does not seem to be any deals right now for Lima. Hopefully things will get better.

That's going to be a busier tourist time of year though than the next few months. Also point to note is anyone doing the Inca Trail will be forced to book their trekking dates early so they'll probably book their flights early too.
If you are flexible on dates you can afford to play it cool and wait for a bargain but if you have fixed dates you are going to have to book in advance. For July I guess you can afford to wait another while yet, probably find something a little cheaper.

To add to my #1 post....
You can try what I've done a couple of times - Ryan air or another low budget airline to Madrid or Barcelona, and Iberia to Lima. I saved about £100 that way.
You need to be aware that you're taking the risk of making it on time between the two separate bookings.

I booked my flight to Lima today. I got a return because one way was more expensive. My flights were £540 from Heathrow to Lima via Amsterdam in May. If I'd booked on Saturday, it would've been £525, and less if I'd booked a few weeks ago. Keep an eye on the prices with skyscanner, kayak or similar. Try searching for by whole month or whole year if your dates are flexible. Also, be careful who you book with. I almost booked with 9flights, until I read the awful reviews online. I would've saved a few pound, but I don't think the stress would've been worth it! Netflights & travelup also have really bad reviews, so do a quick google search before you commit to anything. Have a great trip.

Have flown to South/Central America 4 times in Uk summertime and flights have been around the £800-£900 mark. I think it is just more expensive at that time but maybe you'll find a bargain or there may be some offers. Last year in June I booked to leave in August and about a week later there was an offer on, typical!

Hi Laura,
I paid £999 for my london/lima flight this july flying via Madrid with Iberia. I tried several agents and sky scanner etc and this was the best I could find. The flight was £600 or so and the rest was taxes.
I just got an e mail from my agent telling me Iberia have changed their summer schedule and put me on a different flight which means I miss my connecting flight back to Ireland. As the airline is not affiliated with the Ireland flight he says I am responsible for the changes and charges. I am hoping he is incorrect. I have to wait until Monday to find out but so far not impressed at all with Iberia.
I flew to Argentina and back from Brazil last year with Air France and they were great. they were my next cheapest option in my search.
Good luck,
Michelle
