Traveling during Ramadhan

I'll be going to Bali for a week in the middle of Ramadhan this summer and am wondering how much it'll affect our trip? We'll be spending most of our time around Kuta, will the bars still be open late and restaurants be unaffected because of the large number of tourists?

And how will day trips work? I was hoping to get to Ubud and see some sights along with the Monkey Forest...would it be closed?

In Bali you won't even know that Ramadan is going on. Bali is predominantly Hindu. Everything will be open including the bars of Kuta into the wee morning hours.

As #1 says....the only way you will know its on is if you happen to be staying next to a mosque..in which case you will be kept awake;-)......Otherwise no problems at all.

Yeah, we were blasted out of our beds at 4am every morning one year in Lovina during Ramadan. Barely noticed a thing different anywhere else we went on Bali that year including Ubud and Sanur.

About the only thing you will notice is the traffic around Kuta going from awful to completely horrendous in the week after the end of Ramadan as the Javanese take their one week annual holiday in Bali. Other than that, it's business as usual.
