Nice Place to Stay in Bay Islands?Hello,
Going down for our wedding anniversary in April and for once not wanting to do it on a shoe string budget :)
If anybody could recommend a great place to stay and it's cost that would be much appreciated.

2Probably the nicest right now is Infinity Bay on West Bay. Gorgeous stretch of beach! Accommodations are condos w/ kitchens. Right near it is the Mayan Princess, a touch cheaper I think and supposedly also very nice, on same stretch of beach.
Nice little restaurant right on the beach, friendly expats who own condos there.

The main reason for coming is to scuba so a place close to good diving would make the most sense. Budget, we're willing to go $100 but don't think that will be necessary. Nightlife isn't as important as good food.
From what I understand is Utila is more laid back and less touristy with better diving...soooo we're leaning to that island.
Is that enough info?

4We love the Lighthouse on Utila - beautiful, light, clean rooms with air conditioning, tv, kitchenette (which we love having) and a wrap-around balcony over the water. It's on the end of town by the bridge to the old airport area where we find great snorkeling and fishing. My favorite dive shop, Alton's, is just - literally - a minute away and our favorite restaurant in town, RJ's Barbecue, is across the street from the dive shop. Cost for the hotel is $300-385/week/double occupancy depending on the room. You can see photos, blogs, detailed travelogues with links, and reviews at the 1st link below.
I'll post this in response to your other current thread, too. Happy trails!

6We just had a couple return to Utila yesterday after only staying two days of a planned four day stay on Roatan.
They described their experience as "this is Pensacola Florida and I expected my mother to round the corner in a sun dress at any moment." These aren't "backpackers" either.
Along with The Lighthouse, The Mango Inn and Lazy Daze on the Bay would also qualify as nice places.

7"this is Pensacola...." reminds me of the story of the 6 blind men and the elephant where one comes back and says an elephant is like a tree and another says it's like rope and another says it's like a wall. Roatán is a fairly large, diverse island. We thought West Bay was way too resortish but have had completely different takes staying in Sandy Bay, Camp Bay, and Port Royal. That said, I'd still recommend Utila/Lighthouse/Alton's. :-)

8I think we'd like to stay on West Bay. I've previously stayed at the Infinity Bay, but it's quite pricey. Does anyone have a recommendation that is a little less pricey?
I also saw something called the Fantasy Is resort, it's in a different area of Roatan but it looks beautiful. Anyone familiar?
How's the Henry Morgan?
We'll have come from somewhat roughing it for 2 wks in Costa Rica & maybe El Salvador, so I think we'll be looking for a bit more comfort by then.
