Easy to find cheap guesthouses without reservation?
Hello.Next monday we'll fly to Yangon.
We've some GH in Yangon and they are full or ask for 22 $. Is it easy in these days to find something in Yangon without reservation? And price? Now for end january and begining of february.
And some question for the rest of cities... Bagan, Inle, Mandalay...
Many people seem to be in Myanmar and maybe not so many GH...
Thanks.

Hi - just backfrom Myanmar. Yangon: Ocean Pearl USD20 double room, Beautylands II USD22 double room. Mandalay: Royal Guest House USD20 double room, Nyuang U (Bagan): New Park Hotel USD22 double room. Kalaw: Eastern Paradise USD15 double room. Nyaung Shwe (Lake Inle): Remember Inn USD15 double room. Ngwe Saung: Pearl Resort (Horrible!) USD22.50 beachside bungalow. Most of these we booked the day before by getting our hotel reception to phone ahead for availability. Some were fine, one or two not quite so. If you need more details, let me know. Cheers2
You are traveling during high season. Expect that many places will be full. If you don't mind spending your time looking for a place to stay, then just go. Otherwise book ahead a bit. You can start with just your Yangon guesthouse, and then book ahead from each place. If you know where you want to stay already, book ahead.4
$22 for Yangon is reasonable with the rise is prices last year (I assume it is for 2 of you..) best to just take that one to avoid having to spend time searching for a place when you arrive, then once there phone and book ahead for other places...5
Thank you for your quick answers.Uauuuuu. The prices are now really high.
Tomorrow we will fly to Yangon. We will see what happen. We have no reservation. All the cheap ones were full.
Enjoy your trips.

At many of the guesthouses we stayed at (which were recommended by others on this site), people were being turned away in droves (this was last week or so). Some people had walked the whole length of guesthouse lined streets only to find nothing available. I would definitely book a couple of nights ahead like cassiecat suggests - easy to do if you get your guesthouse to phone for you.We made a list of guesthouses we thought were the best value for money and which had the best recommendations on this site (don't necessarily rely on the LP book) and then booked ahead a day or two when we knew when we were travelling.
Eastern Paradise gets my vote for best value for money - fab breakfast and I was grateful that I had a trek to do to walk the bloody calories off.

I've read many many threads and most (if not all) seem to say to book in advance for accommodation. And most recommend May Kha Lar guesthouse but I cannot find any email/website which offers reservations/booking online, even for other guest houses. Is this option available? On google map I see plenty of guesthouses but no contacts/email. Do I call them from Yangon to book ahead or is there another way around it for advance booking? Flying off on 13/4/2012.
Thank you in advance for any advise.
