visa for US citizenI'm planning a trip to Myanmar beginning around 13 February (haven't booked a flight yet). My question is: should I try to get a visa here in the US now or plan a layover in Bangkok to get a visa there?
I'm not crazy about spending time in BKK as I have been there several times before but will do so if that is the easiest method.

2I think you may want to do the BNGK visa run. You're cutting it pretty tight.
Contact the Myanmar embassy in Washington. But I think they take a good 3 weeks usually.

3Thanks, folks. It sounds like the safest course for me is to plan on getting my visa in BKK. How many days should I plan on laying over?
If memory serves me, I don't need a visa for Thailand. do I?

4During this high season, it's been taking 3 weeks to get a visa from Washington, DC. If you haven't booked a flight yet and you don't want to spend time in Bangkok, send off for your visa today and plan to go a week later. Some people have reported going to the consulate in NYC and being able to get it faster in person. If it is easy to get to NYC for you, call them and see if they can arrange a same day or next day visa. If you mail it to NYC, they will mail it to Washington DC.
Because you've left it so late, the easiest thing would be to stop in Bangkok for a visa. You can get a same day visa there on weekdays, but check to make sure the day you plan for isn't a Thai or Burmese holiday.

6If you're close enough to DC, you can just show up and try to sweet-talk the visa guy (it worked for a friend of mine last year), but yeah, one day in Bangkok just isn't that bad.

7Get the visa in Bangkok but give yourself a few days just in case. i know Bangkok can be a pain. Some hate it some like it. I am in the middle. Just avoid the typical tourist hang outs and i think you will have a far better experience.
