Why not fly to Chiang Mai if you are in LP
I guess an upside to chikungunya fever would be the name. "I've got chikungunya fever -- and the boogie-woogie blues!"
The closely related o'nyong'nyong virus is also fun.
Actually, if you can pronounce "chikungunya" or "o'nyong'nyong", you probably aren't that sick.
They call dengue "bone-break fever". If chikungunya is worse...
His question is not "do I have a dangerous disease?", but "given my symptoms, would it be worth seeking out additional professional advice?"
I have a 2mm-long abrasion on my little finger. There's no bleeding, but the dermal layer is exposed for about 1.5mm. I think I might have scraped it on a door frame. Should I rush to the emergency room to have it examined by an expert?
Original poster here. I was in the process of booking a flight to Bangkokk when I posted this. Just thought if I could get any additional info before hand than it might have been useful. Saw a few snidey comments which were quite frankly pathetic. This is a travel forum guys, NOT a world of warcraft forum. Have a word with yourself and if you have'nt got anything constructive to say dont say it.
For the majority of you thank you for you're time and effort in responding! I'm not 100% but definately on the mend. Don't take any risks as what has been previously echoed on here and safe travels!

It's okay to be smug if you've got the Aussie clinic to fall back on - you know they're going to tell you go to Thailand if it's necessary, plus they have all the contacts to follow up on their prelim diagnosis.16
Lao used to be the land of hemorrhagic fevers, unknown ones, but as another person posted you might just have a nasty virus. Why not fly to Chiang Mai if you are in LP

Its not just the Aussie clinic; there are others here as well. By the way, a decent number of local doctors here in Vientiane are now well trained.21
If they tested you for Dengue and it came back negative then you might have Chikungunya Fever. The symptoms are very similar and it is often misdiagnosed as Dengue. There is a bit of an Epidemic going on in S.E. Asia.

The joint pain is supposed to be really bad!

Ah yes, you are very wise to post here for your second opinion.
