Luang Prabang - Siem Reap

Quick q that you may be able to confirm for me. Is Lao Aviation the only airline that services Luang Prabang - Siem Reap route directly? Interested in travelling in November and getting both spots in but disappointed by airline options currently. Fares with Lao Aviation seem to be fixed at $200 p.p. one way which is out of my budget.
Thanks.

Yes this is correct. Lao Airlines is not a budget airline

Domestic flights are not that expensive in the countries of SE Asia I know (Vietnam Laos Cambodia Thailand, except the infamous Bangkok-Koh Samui where Bangkok Airways takes great advantage of their monopoly); short international flights are another story, alas ! $200 is correct

There's nothing cheap flight-wise in and out of Siem Reap. You might check the price of flying to Phnom Penh instead and then overland to SR (6 hrs). Overland the whole journey is a monster, will take several days and by the time you add up all the bits and pieces you'll probably find $200 is a reasonable price for the 700km? trip.

Darn! Pity - I was hoping that it there may be other airline options and/or promotions on but it seems as though I need to think in the $200 range.

" from Vietnam Airlines for $200 from Siem Riep to Luang Prabang "

I believe that's Laos Airline, codeshared with Vietnam Airline.

Think of it this way:

The $200 is not too bad a deal (if time is limited). Three days looking out a bus window costs $60+, and then you're eating lousy food, squatting in dumpy hotels next to a bus station (or trying to sleep on a bus), and missing three days of actually being somewhere rather then getting somewhere. I'm fortunate enough at this point in my life to see that saving $140 alternatively takes three days of my "being somewhere" away - and I'd rather have the three days in Angkor Wat or on a Thai beach than an extra $140 in m pocket....

Sometimes time is more valuable than money.

Both Lao and Vietnam airlines are both quoting $315 now. Too much when there are three of us. We'll have to find another way.

Hi, I flew by Lao Air from Siem Riep to Luang Prabang a year ago $200 one way. Make sure you book at the official Lao airline's desk in LP. Sometimes bookings from budget acc. can go awry. I speak from experience at the Cambodian and Lao end.Everybody I talked to said it was worth it because the road trip was rigorous! So 300 is steep but I leave it to you. I backpacked in Laos 10 years ago and the trip took 10 days-but I loved it. Good luck

since I'm flying the same route, I just checked and the price is still 200 USD. Lao Airlines do not seem to change price at all. it's the same price for tomorrow's flight as it is for a flight in August.
