Kalimantan...River Trips...?

Are there any River Trips in Kalimantan that are worth taking...like on the Mahakam River? Is there much tourism there...?

If so...are there Losmans further up river...and are the boats booked from place to place or for the whole trip...and how expensive are the boats... Would it be better to fly up river can travel downstream...?

Can you rent a room in a Dayak Long House upriver...?

Any health and safety issues... Like headhunters...LoL...?

Is Malaysian Borneo more developed for tourism...

Hi,
One of the best things I have done was to visit Tanjung Puting National Park.
You get to see a lot of wildlife and the orang utans are marvelous.
Best of all is staying on the housebout on the river, right beside the forests.

I know about the Mahakam river trips. Most take tourists to the Dayak villages.

Yes, some.

Yes, in the villages along the Mahakam.

and are the boats booked from place to place or for the whole trip
The Mahakam is the "main road" for the people who live along the river system so there are boats going from place to place. If you want, you could charter your own boat at a higher cost.

Yes, I have a friend who developed a stomach problem after doing a trip and it was several months before he was completely better.

He and 3 other friends crossed from Samarinda to Pontianak, and thought they wouldn't see any other people once they got into the interior. Well, they encountered about a dozen groups of people doing the same trip -- some going east to west, others west to east -- and missionaries stationed in the middle of Borneo.

Like headhunters
Should not be a problem.
